Fall down go BOOM on the Bike of Doom

by Steve ~ March 22nd, 2007. Filed under: Riding the Bike.

Riding to work today I decided to scout a longer route and tried the river walk from the legislative buildings, along through the Forks, then up to the Provencher Bridge. I fell twice after hitting large, frozen puddles adjacent to jagged stretches of ice when my wheel jumped.

Scraped up my arm, bruised my left knee. My own fault. The river walk is a beautiful ride during the summer. Four kilometres of the seven kilometer commute are along the shores of the Assinniboine and Red rivers. In early spring, with large patches of bare ice surrounded by stretches of chopped up, sharp, ice ridges, it’s just dangerous. I should have known better. It’ll be roads for me until temperatures rise and the ice is gone.
