A week of bottom bracket silence

870 Km on the odometer, and a silent week on the road. The SC1800 continues to roll without a problem. I can’t say I miss the constant chatter of the bottom bracket. Like a Victorian child, it should be seen and not heard. If I do another overhaul of the BB, and I expect I will, I may follow Sheldon Brown’s advice and remove the bearing cages and replace them with loose bearings… about twice as many as are in there now. That may provide a longer term solution to the BB noise, if it returns.

Tires and wheels look good. I have to say, I’m impressed by this $99 department store bike. I’ve even taken it on some reasonably long jaunts, in the 40 Km range, and it is not a bad ride. A splash of Prolink now and then keeps the chain reasonably quiet.

I would recommend this bike as a commuter/beater, at least for those who don’t mind doing a little maintenance.
