A better day, though it didn’t start that way. I spent a little time last night ensuring that the SC1800 could survive the rugged Riding Mountain terrain. I swapped the front and rear tires (the front one has taken less of a beating, not having my weight on it), checked air pressure, made sure wheels and everything else were tightly attached. I managed to get in two Km this morning before it started to pour. It rained all day, stopping only after dinner at 6:30 PM. I decided to get in another ride. Everything seemed to be going well until, at almost exactly the same spot I got a flat yesterday, my foot slipped off the pedal and kicked the chain guard, breaking it in half. I had to stop and break the whole thing off. Then I started laughing. What else could go wrong? Nothing, apparently, at least for today. I did two loops from the public boat-launch area, through the town of Wassagaming to the abandoned South Clear Lake road, to the golf course, turning around at the Wishing Well and the road to Glen Beag. A good ride, a lot of hills. No bears. A total of 76.1 Km in three days. Not bad, despite all the problems. I want to average 25 Km a day when I’m here. If I can do that, I’ll be happy.
