Everything you always wanted to know about the SuperCycle SC1800 Mountain Bike… but were afraid to ask
by Steve ~ September 20th, 2007. Filed under: Department Store Bikes.I’ve been curious about the SC1800 since I bought it at Canadian Tire, but have not been able to find any information about the bike, anywhere. So, I thought I’d go to the source and ask Canadian Tire about it. I figured it was a longshot, but what the heck. Today, I received a response… Not from Canadian Tire directly, but from Adrian Marples, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Raleigh Canada Ltd.
All my questions were answered.
1) Where is the SC1800 manufactured? Waterloo, Quebec.
2) Who manufactures the SC1800 for Canadian Tire? I originally thought ProCycle/CCM… but it’s Raleigh Canada. Hey, I’m actually riding a Raleigh!
3) Are replacement parts available? Yes, and kept on hand at a distribution centre in Oakville (Ontario?). Apparently there’s a 1-800 number, but perhaps not available to the public? I expect parts can be ordered through Canadian Tire.
4) Is there safety information available? The SC1800 is manufactured in an ISO certified environment and passes all Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standards as well as Canadian Tire’s BIQE standards (I don’t know what that is.)
5) How many SC1800 bikes are sold in Canada every year? About 50,000. There are 1.2 to 1.4 million bikes sold in Canada every year. According to Adrian Marples, 50,000 units probably makes the SC1800 the top-selling bike in Canada.
Anyway, for those of you who were curious, that’s what I’ve been able to dig up.

Amazing!
We have 50000 brothers and sisters out there being born every year!
Someone is making $5 million annually from these!
Wow!
We care :)

I can’t see Raleigh making much money off the SC1800, not if they’re selling it to CT for less than its retail purchase price.
I wonder if it’s more a matter of having to manufacture the SC1800 for Canadian Tire in order to get their other bikes carried there.
You scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours.
