Bored blogger messes with readers’ minds… claims he has “plan”

by Steve ~ February 3rd, 2008. Filed under: This blog.

Please excuse the changes in the appearance of the Bike of Doom. Though my mind has turned to blogging again, it’s still too cold to get the bikes out. As a result, I’ve been poking and prodding at the blog itself, playing with themes, adding and removing ads as the whim crosses my mind. Once I get the bike on the road, or settle into doing the repair work I’m pretty sure is just around the corner, I expect things will settle down.

I intend to take a more active role in the blog this year, and have a list of articles I’m going to publish periodically on a variety of subjects related to department store bikes, cycling, and the Bike of Doom in particular. As I said at the end of last year, there’s only so much you can write about the day-to-day existence of a department store bike:

It rolls along. It breaks down. It gets fixed. The mileage adds up. It rolls along. It breaks down…

Anyway, you get the picture. I will continue to keep you informed of the adventures and misadventures of that rascally BSO, but at the same time will try give you a little more. In the meantime, please accept my apologies. I’m not messing with your mind just for the fun of it. I’ve got a plan!

I’ve often found that a good long bike ride will relieve the stress and vexation caused by the idiosyncrasies of the web. Failing that, a glass of Scotch on ice should do the trick. Choose your poison. The Bike of Doom is not judgmental.

Hi, just how much is left of the original Bike of Doom?

Do you mean the blog, or the bike? The bike is mostly OEM, with the exception of a back wheel and bottom bracket. The blog is essentially the same, though I seem to be writing a little bit more about cycling than about the Bike of Doom itself. That’s mostly a function of it being winter. I won’t start seriously riding again for another month or two.

It was about the actually bike.

That’s not too bad at all. I was expecting just about everything to be replaced.

Keep up the story; I look forward to reading more this summer.

You can check out the repair log in the left sidebar, near the top. It shows repairs and costs to date.

You can see that the last repair was done about 1,500 Km ago. The bike seems to be holding up well.
