Bike of Doom warms to winter thaw - 3384 Km
by Steve ~ February 23rd, 2008. Filed under: Riding the Bike.Temperatures rose a little in the last few days, closing out the week at -20 yesterday morning, or -27 with windchill. This is positively warm compared to what it’s been, and I literally felt the SC1800 loosening up. Pedal and chain movement became easier and I actually zoomed along on the way to work and home again. It’s only -14 today. I should go for a ride. Or maybe just shovel some snow.
I haven’t ordered a replacement for the rear shifter yet, but I’ll do that this weekend. Found one online for .99 cents, but I think I’ll try Canadian Tire to see how they do on supplying spare parts. Other than the broken shifter, the BOD seems fine. I expect to put on about 300 Km a month over the next couple of months. Not a lot, but enough to get my cycling legs back, I think.
I took a look at my Giant mountain bike and the Jamis Coda the other day. Time for spring tune-ups. The Jamis needs new tires, and the Giant just needs a little TLC. The Specialized Armadillo tires for the Jamis, by the way, will cost more than the Bike of Doom. I got about 7,000 Km out of them over a couple of years, so I guess I shouldn’t complain.
