Heavenly warm spell, hellish trail ride

Clogged by snow

Environment Canada got it right today as temperatures soared to near zero. The afternoon sun caused a sudden melt. Roads were wet, but rideable. My usual trail, on the other hand, turned into a quagmire of slush, water, and snow just soft enough to pass as quicksand.

I don’t relish the idea of riding in this kind of weather. Melting snow has filled the streets with water, making some of them difficult to navigate when traffic is coming. Drivers seem to take advantage of every opportunity to send sheets of water flying.

As you can see by the picture above, I had to stop my bike half way home. The snow was forcing the chain off the gears. Unless I can map out a relative dry route tomorrow, I may be forced to walk for a couple of days. I hope not. But getting to work in good enough condition to actually do some work is part of the deal.
