Immigrant Laborers on Bicycles - at cyclelicious

CycleiciousFritz has an excellent article at Cyclelicious about people who ride department store bikes. In his back yard they tend to be immigrant laborers, invisible to the rest of the world. This is similar to what I’ve noted here on Bike of Doom. The people who ride department store bikes in general are not like me, a goofy guy riding a cheap bike into the ground for fun, they are diehard commuters, sometime poverty ridden, occasionally homeless, and ride their bikes out of necessity. Up here in Winnipeg, even when it’s -40 degrees, they can be seen cycling on the sidewalks. Fritz links to a full length article from Bicycling Magazine, a few years old, also worth a read.
